Rehabilitation and cleaning of drilled wells

A drilled well is often the only source of water for a town, village, workshop or family home and is rather costly to construct. The well itself is connected with other utilities, especially piping that conveys the pumped water into the house, and electric wiring.

During the life of the well, clogging by clay particles, iron and manganese encrustation, sludge from the surrounding medium, or even by a pump or other objects that have fallen into the well may take place. This, of course, compromises the performance of the well. Therefore a well, as any other structure, needs to be maintained if it is to serve well and for a long time.

Why to undertake rehabilitation and cleaning of a well?

Because you will save money by prolonging

  • life of the pump
  • life of the piping and fittings
  • life of the well itself

Rehabilitation of a well includes:

  • Taking out the existing piping, checking the condition of the pump, etc.
  • Checking the condition of the well using a video camera
  • Removing objects that have fallen into the well, such as drop pipes or pumps
  • Cleaning the well casing by brushing and high-pressure water
  • Cleaning the filter pack in the annular space as well as adjoining soils and rocks from clay particles and incrustants produced during the life of the well
  • Cleaning the well from sludge deposited within the casing during the life of the well

Checking the results of the operations by means of a video camera

The company VODNÍ ZDROJE, a.s. carries out well cleaning and rehabilitation using its own comprehensive technological process for mechanical and chemical regeneration of wells, drilled wells and radial collector wells with the use of the rig RS 120. In complicated settings, this method can be applied without the use of the RS 120 equipment as well.

The company VODNÍ ZDROJE, a.s. has been dealing with methods of removal of clogging, deposits and incrustants from groundwater extraction facilities on an expert level for a long time. Since 1975, the original methods of mechanical cleaning have been supplemented with methods of chemical rehabilitation. The entire well cleaning methodology has been gradually improved in terms of reducing health risk as well as damage to the well equipment and surrounding soils and rocks.

The development of TV technology to inspect the condition of the well has been an important improvement towards a better maintenance of drilled wells. A thorough inspection of the condition of the equipment enables to propose the most efficient solution from a technical as well as economic point of view. Video inspections can be conveniently supplemented with well logging to determine the properties of soils and rocks, water flows and influx, occurrence of washouts, etc. Moreover, video inspections are used to check the efficiency of the rehabilitation.

Detailed descriptions of mechanical and chemical rehabilitation proceedings are included in the company's technological documentation. A detailed technical documentation of the machinery and equipment is available as well. Rehabilitations are carried out by a highly qualified staff.

Offered maintenance operations combined with rehabilitation:

  • Checking the condition of a drilled well using a video camera. Complete well logging, if needed
  • Removing objects that have fallen into the well, such as drop pipes or pumps
  • Preventing the decrease in the height of the water column due to pumps or other objects that have fallen into the well
  • Cleaning the well from sludge deposited within the casing during the operation of the pump
  • Cleaning the filter pack in the annular space as well as adjoining soils and rocks from clay particles and incrustants produced during the life of the well
  • Carrying out well re-equipment in case of massive corrosion of iron casing or cracking of earthenware casing, or any other damage of the original equipment
  • Repair of the aboveground parts of drilled wells and other related equipment

Technical specifications of the regeneration rig RS 120:

  • Maximum depth of 120m – due to maximum pressure of the compressor which is 12 atm. This limitation applies mainly to the height of water column; if water level is low, range may increase.
  • Maximum inclination of the tower 3m – allows operating in case the area surrounding the well is built up. The rig itself does not have to reach the wellhead.
  • Operating height of approx. 6m, height of the tower 8.2 m
  • Load-carrying capacity of the tower: 2000 kg.
  • Well diameters from 140mm up.
  • Undercarriage LIAZ 111.800 with auxiliary front drive, h=3700mm, w=2500mm, l=7640mm.
